Dubai, UAE: Joining forces with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Nestlé UAE hosted an awareness event yesterday for employees of the Dubai Government Workshop aimed at helping improve their understanding of nutrition best practices and how to maintain bone health. The event was organized as part of the “Care for your Body…Care for your Health” campaign launched by the DHA recently in collaboration with Nestlé UAE to create public awareness about effective ways of building bone strength, maintaining a healthy weight and preventing Osteoporosis.
The awareness campaign aims to emphasize balanced nutrition and healthy living as the best measures to keep the bones healthy and prevent Osteoporosis, a disabling medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue. The campaign also seeks to highlight effective approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of Osteoporosis
“A balanced and nutritious diet is not only crucial to maintaining bone density but is the cornerstone of overall physical health and wellness,” said Zeinab Maktabi, Nutritionist at Nestlé Middle East.
“Through this campaign, we seek to familiarize the public with some basic diet and lifestyle essentials that could go a long way in building bone strength and maintaining a healthy weight; these include ensuring proper nutrition, exercising regularly, never skipping breakfast, and drinking at least two cups of milk every day, among other recommendations,” Maktabi added.
The awareness event at Dubai Government Workshop, an organization established under the patronage of late HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum for enhancing performance and maintenance of government assets, featured free health screenings and bone density tests, and an orthopedic doctor from DHA was on hand to provide expert advice and guidance to the attendees. Nutritionists from Nestlé were also present to provide tips on good nutritional practices that improve bone health and help maintain a healthy weight.
Commenting on the awareness session, Humaid Sultan Al Mutaiwee, General Manager of Dubai Government Workshop, said, “We are pleased to partner with the Dubai Health Authority and Nestlé on this important initiative to raise public awareness of health and nutrition essentials. We are hopeful the program will help inspire our employees to adopt a culture of health and wellness and set them on a path to healthy living.”
In addition to offering free health screenings and expert advice at various clinics and medical centres across Dubai, the “Care for your Body…Care for your Health” campaign, which continues until October 2012, will make available, for the benefit of the pubic, a wide range of communication materials containing comprehensive information about Osteoporosis and its prevention, including nutrition recommendations for weight management.
Nestlé’s support of the campaign is part of the company’s regionwide “Eat Right Live Well” initiative.
