Dubai, UAE: To facilitate the arrival and treatment of medical tourists coming to Dubai from abroad, the Dubai Health Experience has created an entire 14-point ‘patient journey’ outlining the process, beginning from before the medical tourist arrives to their flight home.
The process begins with the medical tourist finding the desired treatment available in Dubai through the DXH website. Once they’ve identified the type of treatment required, tourists can then search for the ideal doctor, healthcare facility or comprehensive packages from among those listed to suit their particular needs
Once the doctor or facility has been verified from among those that have been properly vetted and approved to receive medical tourists, the soon-to-be patient can contact the healthcare facility directly and share the necessary medical records with them.
Afterwards, the healthcare facility advises on the treatment and costs that would be involved, the patient can book an appointment. Additionally, at this point one can purchase a travel insurance scheme to cover travel risks and complications of eligible medical conditions. This can be purchased from the healthcare facility at the time of booking.
To prepare for a medical tourism visit to Dubai, patients can use the DXH website to look up visa requirements, book hotel stays, and opt for the optional ‘Marhaba’ pick-up service on arrival.
Once all the appropriate arrangements are made, the medical tourist can fly to Dubai and proceed to their hotel, as well as use the dedicated DXH app to confirm their doctors’ appointment. DXH also advises medical tourists to use this time to explore Dubai and the leisure and entertainment options on offer in the emirate.
At this point, the patient meets the doctor and undergoes the desired treatment, and is given follow-up and recuperation assistance or advice, conducted either during the stay in Dubai or after returning home.
Once home, if not satisfied with the treatment carried out in Dubai, the patient can file a complaint through the patient complaint procedure on the DXH website.
