Abu Dhabi municipality plants green idea in its offices

Abu Dhabi, UAE: All 2,200 staff at Abu Dhabi Municipality will be given a desk plant next month as part of an effort to make the authority’s offices safer and more productive.

Staff will also be given instructions on how to take care of them. While they will not be required to keep the green gifts on their desks, the idea is to improve productivity. A further 300 office plants are also being bought.

“The green plants will help people relax and increase the productivity,” said Abdulaziz Zurub, the director of environment, health and safety at the municipality.

The initiative is part of a wide-ranging campaign that will run throughout April under the slogan “Your environment, your health, your safety is our aim”.

Targeting municipality employees, it will include exhibitions and workshops, as well as information on the intranet and handout CDs.

It will highlight the need to reduce paper wastage by cutting down on unnecessary printing, and to conserve energy by turning off office lights after hours. Staff will be given Led lights for their homes and there will be a presentation on recycling.

Staff will be taught how to set up their desks and chairs to reduce the risk of back injury and how to lift heavy objects correctly.

They will also get advice on working off-site, including safety on construction sites.
