Muscat, Oman: Bank Sohar , in its effort to ensure the continued wellbeing of the community and as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility programme, has extended its support to the Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder Association (OHBDA) for the first time. The support was made in order to assist the association in providing essential medical equipment for its members.
The cheque with for the donation amount was handed over to Mr. Salaam Al Kindy, Financial Controller and Board Member of OHBDA, by Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, DGM Human Resources and Corporate Support at Bank Sohar ‘s headquarters in MBD with the presence of Mr. Mazin Al Raisi, AGM Marketing and Publicity.
Commenting on the Bank’s contribution, Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki said:
“Promoting awareness about complicated health issues such Hereditary Blood Disorders within the community is vital. At Bank Sohar we are always on the lookout for such organization and exert our best efforts to ensure that they have the resources required to keep operating at peak efficiency. Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder Association played significant progress since its inception in raising awareness and supporting members of the community on issues related to hereditary blood disorders. We are truly honored to be able to support OHBDA and would like to applaud them for their continuous efforts in educating the community on such a prevalent health issue.”
Thanking Bank Sohar for its support, Mr. Salaam Al Kindy said:
“Hereditary blood disorders such as Sickle Cell, Thalassemia, and G6PD are prevalent health issues in the region. In fact, Sickle cell anemia is spread among 6% of the local population while Thalassemia (Beta) is spread among 2%. Furthermore, around 25% of Omani males and 10% of Omani females are G6PD patients. As a result, it is vital for us to create the right educational and support channels between patients, their families and medical specialists, as well as increase public awareness on the subject. The generous support we receive from organizations such as Bank Sohar go a long way in supporting our cause. I would like to express my gratitude for their support and look forward to working with them in the future.”
Apart from the Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder Association, Bank Sohar has also supported a broad range of other charitable organizations across the Sultanate in the current year including Dar Al Atta, Al Amal Association, Oman Road Safety Association, Association of Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities, Creative Centre for Rehabilitation, Al Wafa Social Centre for Children with Disabilities, Oman Association for the Disabled (Muscat and Sohar branches), Al Noor Association for the Blind (Sohar, Salalah and Muscat branches), the Oman Cancer Association and The Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children together with its dedicated Autism Center. Bank Sohar ‘s CSR initiatives have become an integral part of its operational strategy and as a result, it has received numerous accolades for its CSR efforts over the past years, both regionally and internationally. The Bank plans to continue in its steadfast quest of philanthropy with many more donations and charitable events planned for the current year.
The Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder Association (OHBDA) is a non-profit organization based in Al-Hail Al-Junoubia in Muscat. OHBDA was officially launched on June 14, 2009, in accordance with the Ministerial Decision No. 75/2009 with the aim of creating awareness among public on how to avoid the spread of hereditary blood disorders, and to provide them with key services that include creating public awareness, counseling, tracking services for parents with infants who screen positive by the State Laboratory, family counseling and support services, as well as coordinating medical and social services with the concerned organizations and in-charge institutions energizing an effective social partnership.
