Muscat, Oman: The Iranian Hospital, affiliated with the Iranian Red Crescent, plans to launch a branch in Al Khoud, Muscat, in around 18 months with a vision to bring treatment closer to patients in Oman.

The Iranian Hospital – Dubai was established in 1970 and offers 220 acute in-patient bed facilities, a well-equipped 20-bed emergency and trauma care unit and 16 VIP units. It provides specialty and sub-specialty care for over 1,200 outpatients daily.

Speaking to the Times of Oman, Dr Ali Asgari, the hospital’s medical director, said that the Iranian Red Crescent is seeking to expand the number of its affiliated centres overseas so a decision was made to establish a hospital in Muscat.

The Iranian Hospital – Dubai is participating in the 5th edition of Oman Health Exhibition and Conference at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, which will conclude on September 9.

“We receive many patients from Oman at The Iranian Hospital – Dubai, and many patients also visit Iran for treatment. Omanis have confidence in Iranian doctors and treatment and we also have great respect for them. So we decided to bring our services closer to Omanis,” noted Dr Asgari.

50-bed facility

As a result of consultations between the Iranian and the Omani sides, a multi-storey building in Al Khoud has been designated for the hospital, he said, adding, “It was initially supposed to have 35 beds but it was decided later to increase it to 50.”

According to Dr Asgari, almost all the specialties at The Iranian Hospital – Dubai will become available at the upcoming hospital in Muscat.

The Iranian Hospital – Dubai has a wide range of specialty and consultancy clinics and services including general surgery and developed laparoscopy, neurosurgery, psychiatry, and paediatrics, in addition to ophthalmology, gynaecology, urology, and cardiology. It also has consultancy clinics and services for gastroenterology, neonatology, dentistry, plastic surgery, and endocrinology, as well as an ear, nose and throat clinic.

Units

The hospital in Al Khoud will also have a number of other sections such as an emergency unit, laboratory, ICU, NICU and CCU, said Dr Asgari.

There are plans to bring specialists from Iran and around 60 doctors will be required at the hospital, he said, adding that the hospital would welcome the services of Omani medical personnel as well.

Not all Iranian doctors will be based here, but 32 doctors must be available at any point in time to cover the respective clinics, said the official.

Training

Dr Asgari also noted that The Iranian Hospital – Dubai has been conducting successful training programmes and would like to offer training to the medical community in Oman, which has made great progress in recent years.

He expressed his thanks to the Omani authorities and said that the hospital will be committed to providing quality services to patients.

Iranian medical experts, who have specialised in a number of fields, are available for consultation during the exhibition, concluded Dr Asgari.
