Al Ain, UAE: Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine and part of the SEHA healthcare system, today inaugurated three newly renovated facilities at the hospital, strengthening its position as a leading healthcare provider in the UAE.
The improved and redesigned facilities include: the Radiology Department, now equipped with a new Digital Radiography (DR) System that replaced an old conventional analog X-ray unit. The new system is capable of image stitching, a processing function that combines multiple overlapping images to create a single image. The new digital system is also fitted with new advanced wireless detectors which improves the ease of use and allows for greater imaging functions.
The benefits of the Digital Radiography system is to improve the quality of patient care via reducing the waiting time and turn around examination. The new system will provide higher quality resolution of stitching images for a more accurate diagnosis to the patients. It can highlights the different details of body parts in the images for the bones and soft tissues that reduces radiation dose exposure. The processing time from Computed Radiography (CR) to Digital Radiography (DR) is quicker. There is better consistency of x-rays as no wet processing is required. The captured images can easily be shared for quicker referral via email or CD. This machine is a cost saver that no film or chemistry consumables are required. It also saves space for the darkroom and storage of X-ray images.

With the new renovation, there is now a Surgical Admissions area with male and female waiting rooms, a pre-anesthesia area with a patient education room and a doctors’ examination room. Prior to the opening of the new surgical services unit, patients had to go to thePolyclinics or the hospitalreception to register for their elective operations.
In the new unit there is also a 20 bedded Ambulatory Care Day Case Surgical Unit where patients for minor surgery are recovered and discharged on the same day. Those with elective major surgery are admitted to the Day Case area on the same day of surgery and progress to the inpatient area post operatively.
