A 10-day journey across the UAE to raise awareness about breast cancer will begin on March 7.
The starting date of the annual Pink Caravan Ride was set on Monday by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed, Ruler of Sharjah.
Sheikha Jawaher is also the founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients.
The caravan, starting in Sharjah and ending in Abu Dhabi, will involve more than 100 horseback riders in a journey across all seven emirates.
Along with a medical team and volunteers, they will promote awareness of breast cancer, the importance of early detection though examinations, and offer free medical screenings.
The caravan’s organisers have provided free screenings for the disease to 36,332 women and men throughout the UAE.
“The Pink Caravan Ride will continue as long as the challenge imposed by breast cancer still exists,” said Sheikha Jawaher.
“With faith, determination, a firm will and patience, we can achieve what we aspire to do.”
Established in 2011, the Pink Caravan also provides financial and emotional support to patients and their families.
Sheikha Jawaher is also the International Ambassador for the World Cancer Declaration of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC.
