Bernadette was born in the United Kingdom and has undertaken her Psychotherapy training there. She is registered with the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP) and a registered member of The College of Psychosexual & Relationship Therapists (COSRT). She holds an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Middlesex University and a Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from the prestigious Metanoia Institute in London. She has also been awarded a Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy at the London College of Clinical Hypnotherapy.
Bernadette has trained as a Mindfulness Teacher to give her a deeper insight into treating and supporting the whole person with a holistic approach in her clinical practice. Bernadette’s view of psychotherapy is as an essential part of personal development. She feels the more we learn about ourselves and understand our responses to life events, the greater our personal growth and ability to make positive change.
Before moving to Dubai last year, Bernadette has over 10 years’ experience working in the Public Sector in the UK. Working for 7 years in the London Police Service, providing therapy for Police Officers and staff and managing the Psychological Services of the Occupational Health Department. As a result, she has extensive experience of working with trauma. Bernadette’s last position in London was working within the setting of an internationally renowned high security hospital, where she provided Psychotherapy support to NHS Staff who were managing seriously disturbed individuals; this was a particularly challenging role, as this coincided with the onset of the global COVID 19 Pandemic.
In addition to Bernadette’s private practice in London, she has worked in many clinical settings, including working with young people, victims of sexual and domestic abuse, those who are bereaved and providing long term group psychotherapy. Bernadette’s model for practising psychotherapy is both developmental and relational. Theories with a key emphasis on the responsiveness and attunement of the child’s primary care givers, together with the environmental impact on the developing self, form the foundations of her way of working. As an integrative practitioner, Bernadette’s relational model of working is constructed from key ideas which are central to her core values and beliefs. Bernadette aims to offer the most appropriate therapy for the individual. Her approach being to tailor therapy to the individual client and their unique personal circumstances. Bernadette has been trained in the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) with an Attachment Focussed approach, which can be particularly beneficial when working with the effects of trauma.
Before retraining as a Psychotherapist, Bernadette worked for many years in high profile banks and commercial enterprises within the Financial Services’ Industry in the City of London. She has a broad life experience and a unique insight into the effect of stress on people’s lives, particularly when working in high pressure environments. Bernadette has specialist bereavement training. and undertakes continuous professional development to ensure she is kept abreast of the latest developments within the field of Psychotherapy, wellbeing and personal development. Bernadette is particularly interested in motivating others to reach their true potential, restoring their self-confidence, building their personal belief systems and working with stress related issues. Bernadette’s aim is to motivate her clients to achieve their own personal goals and assist them in unlocking their inner potential to empower them to create positive change in their lives.
