Dr. Emad Abboud, MBBCh, is Chief of the Department of the Posterior Segment at the Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Abboud worked at the Vitreoretinal Division at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he served in various senior roles over a 22 year period. There, he was named Chief of the Vitreoretinal Division in 1996, where he served until 2008. Dr. Abboud also held the roles of Associate Medical Director, Director of Medical Education and Interim Executive Medical Director at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital. Also during his tenure there, Dr. Abboud trained more than thirty Vitreoretinal Specialists from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, receiving a number of high-profile teaching and research accolades.
Dr. Abboud earned his medical degree from Cairo University Medical School in Egypt. After he completed his first residency in Ophthalmology at the Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology center in Paris, Dr. Abboud continued with a second residency at the University of Chicago to gain his American Board of Ophthalmology certification. During the last eighteen months of his residency at University of Chicago, he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Abboud completed his fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Intraocular Tumors.
