Dr. Murat Tuzcu, MD, is the Chief Academic Officer and the Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Heart and Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Tuzcu held the roles of Vice Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Staff Physician in Interventional Cardiology in the Heart and Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, US.

Dr. Tuzcu's clinical interests cover a wide range of interventional cardiology patients. In addition to percutaneous treatment of coronary artery disease, his expertise includes catheter-based treatment of valvular heart disease (Transcatheter aortic valve replacement or TAVR) and adult congenital heart defects. He is an internationally recognized expert in the emerging field of percutaneous valve repair and replacement and treats patients from all around the world.

Dr. Tuzcu's current research interests focus on the investigation of catheter-based treatments for valvular heart disease and he holds several patents involving catheter design. Another long-term research interest involves the use of various imaging modalities to reveal the development and progress of atherosclerosis. He has made seminal contributions to the understanding of transplant coronary artery disease and subclinical atherosclerosis using intravascular ultrasound imaging. He had and continues to have leadership roles in landmark studies in his research areas of interests. In 2015, Thomson Reuters named him as one of the most highly cited researchers (Top 1%) in the world in the last decade.

He is a committed educator, devoting a substantial portion of his time to intramural and extramural education activities. Through his work at the International Center, Dr. Tuzcu is involved in medical education of doctors. He has also organized many courses and conferences and lectured around the world. He has held several academic appointments, including Instructor in Medicine and Research at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, US, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US and Professor of Medicine at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, US. Currently, he is a Professor of Medicine in the Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, US.

Dr. Tuzcu received his medical degree from Istanbul Medical Faculty, Istanbul, Turkey, where he also completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He followed this with fellowships at Cleveland Clinic in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology and a special fellowship for valvular interventions at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then served as junior faculty at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, both in Boston, Massachusetts, US. He is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, Society for Cardiac Angiography & Interventions and the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the Turkish Society of Cardiology and a trustee of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Tuzcu was voted repeatedly one of the "Best Physicians in America" and is listed in the National Registry of Who's Who.
