Dr. Spence trained in Haematology Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Royal Marsden Hospital London.
Dr. Spence joined SKMC in December 1999 as Head of Clinical Hematology and then became the Chair of Medicine in 2004 to 2009. He now practices as a Consultant in Medicine. Dr. Spence worked as Consultant Haematologist to the hospitals of Tayside Health Board, Scotland, and then was recruited to King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Riyadh as Consultant Haematologist to contribute to development of the Haematology service, and the initiation and development of the BMT service for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He then was employed by HCI International Medical Centre, Glasgow as Head of Bone Marrow Transplant, and Chief of Laboratory Services. Member of American Society of Hematology, British Society for Haematology, American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplant, International Society for Cellular Therapy, Association of Clinical Pathologists, Founding member of the Emirates Society of Haematology, Haematology Section of the Emirates Medical Association, and currently President of the Society.
