Dr. Carlos Torres, MD, PhD, obtained his Medical Degree at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil in 1988. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Universidade Fedreral do Parana, before going on to receiving his Emergency Medicine training at The Ohio State University. He subsequently completed a Research Fellowship while earning a Masters in Medical Sciences and a Masters in Public Health. During his tenure as faculty at OSU, he also obtained a PhD in Biophysics.
In 2011, Dr. Torres joined the Emergency Medicine Department at the Mayo Clinic in Florida where he was Co-director of the Chest Pain Unit and developed a focus in clinical research.
Dr. Torres has a keen interest in the international development of Emergency Medicine. He is the current ACEP Deputy Ambassador for Brazil and has been an active participant in the recognition of Emergency Medicine as a specialty in his home country.
Dr. Torres has publications in several peer-reviewed journals including BMJ and Circulation and has presented in local, national and international meetings. His main research interests are cardiovascular emergencies including arrhythmias, acute heart failure, chest pain and resuscitation.
