Dr. Carlos Ugas

Dr. Carlos Ugas, MD, is an Associate Staff Physician in the Neurological Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.​

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ugas practiced as a Neurosurgery Specialist at several private hospitals in Venezuela.

Dr. Ugas received his medical degree from Venezuela Central University, Caracas in 2006. He completed his residency in Neurosurgery at Hospital Vargas de Caracas in 2013, being the youngest person to achieve this. He has worked in impoverished and remote communities in his country.

In 2012, he completed a Microsurgical and Research training period at Helsinki University Central Hospital, Finland under the mentorship of the world-renowned Neurosurgeon, Dr. Juha Hernesniemi. He has also participated as a lecturer in several national society meetings, presenting topics in the fields of spine surgery, neuro-oncology and developmental abnormalities.

​Dr. Ugas resides in Abu Dhabi with his wife and son. He loves learning different languages, tech gadgets, traveling and gym training.
