Dr. Luis Carlos Herrera Robles, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Emergency Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Robles was an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He worked at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, a regional Cardiac, Stroke and level one Trauma center, as a Senior Attending Staff Physician in the Emergency Department for seventeen years. During this time, he was actively involved in the academic teaching of undergraduate medical students, postgraduate residents, trauma and EMS fellows.
Dr. Robles also worked as an Attending Staff Physician in the Emergency Department at St. Michael’s Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital and Toronto University Health Network in Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Robles received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine University of Panama City, Panama in 1986. He completed the Ontario International Health Program, a postgraduate internship program at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. Dr. Robles also completed a five year residency program in Emergency Medicine, as well as a fellowship in Emergency Medicine Clinical Cardiology in his final year of training as part of the Royal College Residency Program (FRCPC), at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Robles is a Fellow of the Division of Emergency Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
He is a Fellow of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and holds certification for the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. Most recently, Dr. Robles has obtained a Certificate of Independent Practitioner Training with the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society.
Dr. Robles has also been actively involved in many areas of Academic Emergency Medicine as a presenter and keynote speaker at numerous undergraduate and postgraduate seminars, lectures and inter-hospital and city-wide academic grand rounds in Toronto. He also has spoken internationally at conferences and conducted several formal and informal teaching seminars and simulation workshops.
Dr. Robles has been recognized as an examiner by the Emergency Medicine Examination Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada since 2009. His areas of expertise are Cardiology, Critical Care, Trauma and Toxicology.
Dr. Robles has been a Qualified Principal Investigator involved in clinical research within the Pharmaceutical Industry since 2008. He safely conducted Phase One and Phase Two clinical trials of new investigational products in the areas of oncology, drug abuse and liability, psychotropic, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and influenza vaccine.
Dr. Robles possesses a keen interest in critical care inter-hospital transfers. He is an advocate of the development of standardized medical treatment to strive towards excellence in clinical practice and the management of ongoing flow crisis within the Emergency Department.
Dr. Robles is currently residing in Abu Dhabi with his wife. He enjoys soccer, tennis, swimming, boating, antiques, travel and fine dining.
