Dr. Maher Abbas is an internationally recognized American surgeon who is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
He pursued his undergraduate studies at Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia, USA). Subsequently he obtained his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, one of the top 5 universities in the world (Palo Alto, California, USA). After 7 years at Stanford University, Dr. Abbas received his surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, which is ranked as the number 1 hospital in the United States. His subspecialty fellowship in colon and rectal surgery was at the Cleveland Clinic following which he became a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Dr. Abbas has attained the highest rank of full professor of surgery in the USA. He has authored over 150 scientific publications including books, book chapters, and articles. He has keen interest in teaching and developing new techniques in surgery. To date he has delivered more than 200 national and international lectures and scientific presentations. Dr. Abbas is a member of the editorial board of numerous scientific journals. He is currently serving his third term as the associate editor of Diseases of Colon and Rectum, the official scientific journal of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a senior examiner of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and member of both the oral and written examination committees. He is the recipient of 30 honour awards including America’s Top Surgeons, Super Doctors of Southern California, America’s Most Compassionate Doctors, and Los Angeles Magazine Top Doctors.
