Dr. Miriam Byrne, MB, BCh, BAO, MD, FRCSplast, is a Staff Physician in the Surgical Subspecialities Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. She is a Plastic Surgeon specializing in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the breast and oncoplastic reconstruction of the body wall, chest and perineum.
She performs both microsurgical tissue transfer (DIEP/TUG flap) and implant-based breast reconstruction. She specializes in breast aesthetic surgery, including augmentation, reduction, congenital breast, lipofilling/fat grafting and male breast surgery. She also has special interest in the subspecialties of body contouring after massive weight loss surgery and rhinoplasty.
Dr. Byrne received her medical degree from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (MB, BCh, BAO). She became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005 (MRCSI) and subsequently undertook postgraduate research studies focusing on the interrelationship between coagulation and inflammation in a major cancer model. She later earned a postgraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Trinity College Dublin. She completed a fellowship in Microsurgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital, The London Clinic, London, continuing both microsurgical and aesthetic practice.
She completed the National Specialist Training Program in Plastic Surgery. Following that, she completed the Intercollegiate Specialist Examination in Plastic Surgery in the United Kingdom and Ireland and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.
She was awarded the American Society of Plastic Surgery Aesthetic International Fellowship, which enabled further study in the United States and Europe. She holds a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Education and has special interest in educating students and residents.
Dr. Byrne resides in Abu Dhabi. She enjoys mountain climbing, travel and the outdoors.
