Dr Richard is a British, Swedish and Dutch board-certified Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with more than 28 years of experience in the speciality. He has been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since the year 2002 of which more than 15 years in the United Kingdom, and since March 2020 he has been working in the United Arab Emirates.
Dr Richard’s medical expertise is in the field of knee replacement and hip replacement surgery, both primary and revision procedures, as well as in hip fracture surgery. He has a broad clinical experience in the whole field of orthopaedics as well as in trauma and sports medicine, and he aims to treat his patients in a functional and evidence-based way, in a similar way as he would like to be treated himself. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Richard has a keen interest in research, in particular in the field of blood coagulation and thrombosis, and he is also very much involved in education, having previously been working as a Senior Academy Tutor in the United Kingdom.
Dr Richard received his primary medical education from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and he received his specialist orthopaedic and trauma training in Malmö, Sweden. He is a fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Medical Association and the Swedish Orthopaedic Association, he is a past fellow of the Netherlands Orthopaedic Society and the Swedish Society of Sports Medicine, and he is a current member of the Nordic Orthopaedic Federation and of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
