Dr. Akbar completed his residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx, New York, followed by a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Akbar lives in Abu Dhabi with his wife and two sons. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, and sports, he is also a certified scuba diver. ​​
