Dr. Saladin Sawan

Dr. Saladin Sawan, MD, Ph.D., FRCOG is a Consultant Surgeon in Gynecologic Oncology and Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Sawan has over 20 years of experience. He has been trained in renowned cancer centers in the UK, including The Christie, St Mary’s in Manchester, and the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute in Basingstoke. Dr. Sawan offers comprehensive surgical treatments for women with gynecological cancers and is proficient in performing pelvic and abdominal surgery. Dr. Sawan has in-depth expertise in the fields of extensive (ultra-radical) Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS), hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and robotic and minimal access gynecological surgery. Dr. Sawan holds a CCT from the UK in gynecological oncology surgery. He is one of very few doctors licensed by the DOH as gynecological oncologists to offer competent surgical treatment for women with gynecological cancers. Moreover, he specializes in fertility-sparing management for women suffering from gynecological cancers. He also advises on managing premalignant and malignant conditions of the cervix, vagina, and vulva. In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Sawan is an Honorary Lecturer in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine, and Health at the University of Manchester, UK. He was awarded a Ph.D. studying mechanisms of ovarian cancer metastasis and an MRes in cancer immunology in endometrial cancer from the internationally renowned Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute. His current research interests focus on the intraperitoneal delivery of therapeutics and artificial intelligence in health care. Dr. Sawan is also the Vice-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK. He is a recognized trainer in gynecology by the General Medical Council, UK, and in colposcopy and cervical cancer screening by BCCSP, UK. He had been a Training Programme Director in Gynaecology Oncology at James Cooke University Hospital, England, till he relocated to UAE.
