Dr. Samer Makhoul

Dr. Samer has joined the American Center as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Head of Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Samer has a wide and rich experience gained from his years of training in the UK where he has obtained the membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrist (MRCPsych) and higher specialized training (CCT) in adult psychiatry and addictions. Dr. Samer has complemented his training with a certificate of Psychopharmacology from the British Association of Psychopharmacology as well as a Postgraduate Certificate (PGcert.) in Autism from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK. These years of training were followed by working as a substantive consultant psychiatrist in the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK until he moved to the UAE.

Dr. Samer has developed and led a multi-disciplinary mental health service at Al Noor Hospital in Abu Dhabi and has become the only psychiatrist and youngest physician to hold the leadership position as the chief of medical services and as well as the chair of education at the hospital.

Dr. Samer’s passion and commitment for excellence in patient care and improving the wellbeing of the communities in which he works at led to many campaigns to improve awareness about mental health problems through lectures, multiple media and TV interviews and article in newspapers and magazines. Dr. Samer speaks English and Arabic fluently as he had his Medical Degree (MD) from Damascus University with recognition award from the Dean of the Faculty and shortly after been selected by the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) as fellow for the 12 world congress in Japan for being part of the few inspiring young psychiatrists.

Dr. Samer is also an approved aviation specialist by the General Civil Aviation Authority in the UAE. Dr. Samer has been a regular speaker in national and international conferences and has multiple publications in international medical journals.
