Dr. Thomas Brewer, MD, is an Emergency Physician in the Emergency Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Dr. Brewer has been American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) certified since 1995 and is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP). Dr. Brewer brings to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi a wealth of academic and clinical experience, as well as international start up experience and familiarity with Abu Dhabi culture.

He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) in 1994 and continued there on the clinical faculty, teaching Emergency Medicine to residents and medical students until 2000. Following his time at CMC, he became involved with a project to upgrade the military healthcare system of the UAE in a joint project that involved CMC, Johns Hopkins and Harvard. Dr. Brewer worked in the Emergency Department at Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi from 2000 to 2002, helping to introduce American type systems, processes and medical standards.

After returning to the US in 2002, he worked at McLeod Regional Medical Center, a Level 2 Trauma Center where he was a member of the hospital Trauma Committee and was a representative on the South Carolina Trauma Advisory Board.

In 2009, Dr. Brewer moved to Gaborone, Botswana, to join a project initially spearheaded by Vanderbilt University to bring Western standard medicine to the country. He worked at Bokamoso Private Hospital for fifteen months, teaching emergency medicine to African doctors and nurses while helping develop an American style emergency department. Dr. Brewer returned to the US in 2011 and continued to work in the ED, splitting his time between McLeod and Aiken Regional Medical Center in South Carolina and working summers in the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, North Carolina.

Dr. Brewer received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.​
