Dr. Madhav Rao

Dr. Madhav Rao is a Consultant Ophthalmologist / Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon with more than 18 years of clinical and surgical experience after completing his post-graduate degree. He finished his MBBS at Kuvempu University, Karnataka, India in 1995 and his MS in Ophthalmology at Saurashtra University, Gujarat, India in 2000. A year later, he qualified for a Diplomate in National Board Examination (DNB, Ophthalmology). In 2002, he qualified as fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, UK and also completed his two years fellowship in medical and surgical diseases of vitreous & retina from the prestigious Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India.

Dr. Madhav Rao became a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS), India in 2003. He has clinical attachments as Associate consultant in vitreous and retina at Sankara Nethralaya, India and consultant at Dhahran Eye Specialist Hospital, Ministry of health, Dhahran,- the only tertiary referral eye hospital in Eastern province of KSA. At Dhahran he was involved in establishing a vitreo retinal clinic and surgical unit. Then, he moved and continued his practice in UAE since 2007 as a Consultant Ophthalmologist / Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon and spearheaded the establishment of a complete vitreo-retinal department (Center of Excellence in Ophthalmology) in a multi-specialty hospital in Abu Dhabi.

In 2013 he joined at Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi and is head of vitreo retina unit and head of Ophthalmology department and recently he has taken the responsibility as Head of Ophthalmology at VPS healthcare group. Dr Madhav Rao is proficient in handling simple to complex medical and surgical retinal diseases. He is one of the busiest retinal surgeons in UAE. To his credit, Dr. Madhav Rao has authored several research publications in peer reviewed journals and made several presentations about medical and surgical retina at national and International level. Dr. Madhav Rao is an international member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where he received various awards: International Ophthalmologist Education Award in 2010 and International Ophthalmology Scholar Award in 2011.
