Dr. Abbas is a professor of Cardiology and Internal Medicine from the Al Mustansyria University. He started his career as a lecturer in the College of Medicine, University of Kufa in 1993 and then transferred to the College of Medicine, Babylon University, where he was promoted to Assistant Professor and then Vice-dean. He was the Supervisor of Postgraduate study of Internal Medicine in the department of Internal medicine and Babylon Centre of Iraqi Council of Internal medicine.

Dr. Abbas has an excellent and impressive track record in the field of cardiovascular medicine, hypertension and non-invasive cardiology, Echo-cardiography and Coronary CT angiography.

Dr. Abbas is a member of many societies including; American Society of Echocardiography, European society of Cardiology and Echocardiography, Emirate society of Cardiology, in addition to many Iraqi cardiology societies.

In 2003 he was promoted to the position of Professor at the College of Medicine, Almustansyria University. There he was appointed as Consultant cardiologist and Internist in Alyramook teaching hospital.
