Dr. Gwynne Howell

Dr Gwynne E D Howell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 25 years of experience in lower limb surgery, mainly hip and knee replacement and revision surgery, 20 of which as a Consultant (attending) surgeon.

Dr Howell qualified from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School University of London (United Kingdom) in 1983 and joined Her Majesty’s Royal Navy. After a period of general duties aboard Destroyers and Frigates in the Indian Ocean and Caribbean, he undertook training in Surgery in General and was appointed as the Military Surgeon to Gibraltar. He then undertook Orthopaedic training In Portsmouth, Plymouth, Oxford and Edinburgh before a Fellowship in Lower Limb primary and revision joint replacement at The University of Western Ontario, Canada.

He was appointed Consultant (Attending) Surgeon in 1999. After retiring from the Royal Navy Dr Howell was awarded The Order of the British Empire for services to Orthopaedics By Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, ruler of The United Kingdom.

Dr Howell was then appointed Lead Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Croydon University Hospital London and was involved in setting up The South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre where he became Medical Director for four years.

Outside hospital work Dr Howell is an enthusiastic junior Doctor trainer not only to local trainees but around the world with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for which is also a senior Surgical examiner and convener of surgical examinations in such places as Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia as well as the United Kingdom.

Dr Howell adopts a holistic approach to patient care with safety and governance being his top priority. Together with his patients he creates a personalised management plan for their treatment ensuring they feel comfortable throughout the entire process of surgical or non-surgical treatment

When not working Dr Howell enjoys travelling and sailing with his wife, Maria who is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Kings College Hospital Dubai.
