Professor William Atiomo is a UK trained Consultant Gynaecologist with great clinical exposure, and he is currently a full Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), Dubai, UAE. Prior to this Professor William Atiomo worked at the University of Nottingham Medical School and Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals, NHS Trust in the UK. He also held private practice privileges in gynaecology at the BMI Park and Woodthorpe Hospitals in Nottingham.

His medical and surgical expertise includes polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, uterine fibroids and laparoscopic and hysteroscopic (keyhole) surgery. He also offers services in menstrual disorders, endometriosis, uterine prolapse, chronic pelvic pain and other general gynaecological conditions. Professor William Atiomo was an advisory appointments committee assessor for consultants for the UK Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and a member of the Wellbeing of Women research advisory committee in the UK.

Professor William Atiomo received his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1987 and his doctorate degree in Medicine, from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. His specialist (residency) training in obstetrics and gynaecology took place in University Hospitals in the Southwest Region of England (Exeter, Bristol and Plymouth) and the Royal Free and University College London Medical School, where he worked as a clinical lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology.

He has had several publications in gynaecology and is currently the guest editor for a special Issue in the journal Cells (a Q1 journal); “Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapeutic Opportunities”. He has been invited to review major research/program grants for many international funders, including the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), Scottish Executive, Wellcome Trust, Daphne Jackson Trust, National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Academy of Medical Sciences, Diabetes-UK and Qatar National Research Fund.

He has also undertaken editorial review work for many international journals, including the British Medical Journal, Human Reproduction, British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G), European Journal of O&G, Journal of O&G, Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Endocrinology, Gynaecology Endocrinology, Molecular Biology Reports, Endocrine Research and Minimally Invasive Surgery. He was a member of the college of experts affiliated to the health services and public health research board of the UK MRC. He is an active member of various associations including the RCOG, Androgen Excess and PCOS Society (International), the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME), Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), and British Medical Association.
